What is the ATTACK SHARK R98 HE?

The ATTACK SHARK R98 HE is a 98-key Hall Effect gaming keyboard and rapid trigger keyboard with Ice Shark magnetic switches, adjustable actuation, 8000Hz polling, a numpad, and a CNC media knob.

Is the R98 HE a full-size keyboard?

It is a compact 98 keyboard rather than a traditional 104-key full-size model. This keyboard with numpad keeps number-entry functionality while taking up less desk space.

Is the R98 HE wireless?

No. It is a USB-C wired gaming keyboard designed for a stable connection and consistent low-latency performance.

How do Rapid Trigger and adjustable actuation work?

As a magnetic switch keyboard and adjustable actuation keyboard, the R98 HE lets you set the actuation point from 0.1mm to 3.3mm. Rapid Trigger resets a key as you release it, while the listed 0.005mm figure refers to RT detection accuracy.

What do the 8000Hz polling rate and 256K scan rate mean?

As an 8000Hz polling rate keyboard, it can send input reports to the PC up to 8,000 times per second, while the 256K scan rate refers to internal key-position scanning. The official page also lists a manufacturer-rated latency of 0.08ms.

Does the R98 HE support full-key rollover and SOCD adjustment?

Yes. The R98 HE supports full-key rollover for registering multiple simultaneous keypresses. Its web-based driver also provides settings for Rapid Trigger, Snap Tap, DKS, MT, and TGL. Snap Tap manages opposing directional inputs in a way commonly associated with SOCD-style control. Check current game, platform, and tournament rules before enabling Snap Tap in competitive play.

Is the R98 HE good for Valorant and CS2?

Yes. It is relevant for players looking for a gaming keyboard for Valorant or a gaming keyboard for CS2 because Rapid Trigger, adjustable actuation, and Snap Tap support fast movement changes and repeated inputs. Check current game or tournament rules before using Snap Tap in competitive play.

Is the R98 HE hot-swappable?

Yes. It is a hot swap keyboard with multi-switch compatibility, but replacement magnetic keyboard switches must be compatible with the board. Standard three-pin or five-pin mechanical switches should not be assumed to work.

Is the entire keyboard made from carbon fiber?

No. It is a carbon fiber keyboard in the sense that every version uses a carbon fiber composite top case. Ink Shade and Ice Ninja include forged carbon fiber composite keycaps, while Black and Moonlight use PBT keycaps.

Is the R98 HE suitable for typing and office work?

Yes. The numpad is useful for spreadsheets and number entry, and a deeper actuation setting can help reduce accidental presses during everyday typing.

What does the R98 HE sound and feel like?

The linear Ice Shark magnetic switches are designed for smooth travel. Its five-layer dampening stack uses PE plate foam, an IXPE switch pad, PET sound layers, switch-socket foam, and bottom silicone to reduce hollow case noise.

Can I customize the keys, Rapid Trigger, and RGB?

Yes. It works as a custom gaming keyboard with a web-based keyboard driver and downloadable software for remapping keys, adjusting actuation and Rapid Trigger settings, creating macros, and changing RGB profiles.

What is the front RGB light strip, and can it be controlled separately from the key backlighting?

The front RGB light strip is an independent ambient lighting strip positioned beneath the keyboard’s front edge. It creates a soft diffused glow across the desk and operates separately from the per-key RGB backlighting. You can use the web-based driver to adjust its color and lighting effects independently.

What media controls and device support does the R98 HE include?

The R98 HE includes a CNC aluminum multimedia knob for convenient media control. The official specifications list support for both PC and Mac.

Excellent for the price, trust the reviews. Sharks are cool!

Coming from my favorite keyboard, the Huntsman Elite from Razer; I wasn't sold on the softer, chunkier key presses over elegant clicks. However, I've been typing on this keyboard for a few hours and I'm very impressed. It's got a cheap price, but built very well. The carbon texture of the lid and keys feels nice, looks incredible at night. The only major "con" I suppose, depending on how you value aesthetics, is that the keys do not have key print shinethrough. That is that the letter T for example, is printed over the top of the carbon cap and cannot let light through. Minor gripe, but I think I prefer it to the south-print view imo.USB-C to keep it connected, wish the cable was a bit longer but they do sell them on their website too. No wrist rest included, the but the Keychron wrist rest for the 96Key layout boards fits perfectly with this 98key layout size.Attackshark has their own web driver software that is surprisingly in-depth, letting you customize everything from lighting to travel actuation.Sharks are super cute, love the included stickers. Went straight on my PCs side panel! For the price I am hard pressed to find a better bargain. 10/10 Attack Shark, would recommend.

A great semi-budget full sized carbon fiber halleffect Keyboard.

It's very obvious that this Keyboard is built mainly for looks, as in my opinion it looks fantastic with a real carbon fiber top plate, faux carbon fiber keycaps that are completely shine through and a massive light bar on the top, all of which can be customized in either a dedicated software or via the online configurator. With its looks aside, which, as I said, are its focus The keyboard itself and day-to-day usage is what I would consider above average but not amazing. I've used cheaper keyboards before that feel better and sound better, but those keyboards We were not full-sized and did not have a real carbon fiber top shell. So it's obvious they had more money to play with in terms of layering and keycaps, but in day-to-day use it is more than acceptable and I'd say if you don't already own a large collection of keyboards in the first place, you will be more than happy using this every single day, my opinion is just a little colored due to my previous experiences.Getting it set up is incredibly easy and plug-and-play. If you wish to use it right out of the box, you don't need to change anything. You simply plug it in and use it as it is, but if you wish to change the RGB settings, change the actuation distance of each key and set up more advanced features like rapid trigger, all that needs to be done in software, which as I said before is quite polished nowadays. The other feature that this keyboard has is the aluminum volume knob that can both control the volume up and down and can be pressed in to mute all audio with everyday usage aside, what I was really impressed is the stiffness as due to the fact that carbon fiber is relatively expensive, the bottom half of this keyboard is the same as every other cheap keyboard out there, being plastic, but due to the thick carbon fiber on top, it is still incredibly stiff and only proves the fact that it's actual carbon fiber and not just a plastic disguised carbon fiber. So as long as you're willing to limit your expectations of it not being fully made of carbon fiber, you will definitely not be disappointed, as what in use the real carbon fiber and the carbon fiber looking keycaps complement each other quite well, especially when the underglow is set to one of its more intricate patterns, allowing the keyboard to look, in my opinion, amazing. The price is definitely a sticking point at $90, but that's mainly due to the fact that again this is a larger keyboard and is partially made of carbon fiber. And I've seen other models with similar build at far higher prices. So if you're looking to get into more exotic materials or simply like the look of it, I'd say $90 is a relatively good price, but do keep an eye out as Attack Shark peripherals do go on sale quite often, and I wouldn't be surprised if this drops to 80 or 70 in the future, but I do definitely recommend it, especially if you want a numpad, as most gaming keyboards nowadays completely negate it.

I found this gaming keyboard to be nice! The body feels substantial but not heavy. The keys are linear and smooth with that fantastic mechanical feel you would expect. The switches are probably close to a 'red' in terms of linear feel but maybe just a bit heavier which feels really good for fast smooth typing. I found no issues with input lag and you can probably feel 'competitive' with wireless on this keyboard while gaming. The keycaps feels like PBT which is to say they feel like very nice quality and durable plastic. The RGB works well and is not overly bright or distracting and yet bright enough to give a fun impression. Overall, this looks and feels like a mid-range rather than entry-level gaming keyboard and most users will probably be reasonably happy with this if you don't mind going with a smaller brand.

Feels and Sounds Way Better Than I Expected

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this keyboard, but I’m seriously impressed. The keys feel incredibly smooth and responsive, especially when gaming, and there’s basically no noticeable delay. The typing sound is also really satisfying without being obnoxiously loud. The keyboard itself has a nice weight to it and feels very solid on the desk. I love the knob for quick adjustments, and the RGB looks great without being too over the top. The coiled cable is also a nice touch and makes the whole setup look cleaner.I’ve used quite a few gaming keyboards and this one definitely feels more premium than I expected for the price. Really happy with it!

Great HE keyboard option if you need a numberpad

Attack Shark impresses me again. I have a couple of smaller HE keyboards from them that I really like, but I do need more of a full-sized keyboard at times. This the sound is very thocky probably due to a very stiff chassis. It is definitely on the louder side. There is minimal flex thanks to the base and carbon fiber cap. The switches themselves don't have a lot of extra wiggle in them either. I really like the knob for volume (or whatever other function you want), which is something I miss on the other keyboards. The keycaps are fine. I like the side facing legends on keyboards with south facing LEDS, and these are mostly good. Some legends are a little thin in places. They have a satiny finish, a little less texture than I generally prefer, but not a problem. The layout is good, with a full size zero on the number pad. Overall, the LEDS are decent, and the light bar across the back is an interesting choice. The clear cover reflects the light back in more of a soft glow fashion so you actually see it as well. At its lowest brightness setting, there is a nice glow. At the highest setting, it is more than enough light for reading something right in front of it.The web software works fine for quick adjustments/customization of the keyboard. There were no weird popups or alerts. You can easily enable/disable rapid trigger/snapshot, etc. and adjustment the performance of the switches without having to install a driver.A couple of very minor issues:- The lack of an END key in favor of an embossed logo, considering there is a larger logo above the number pad. The space looks like it is designed to have a small screen, which would make more sense for the presence of the smaller embossed logo.- The edges of the case, and especially the lower corners, could be slightly more rounded. I do find them digging in a little.

Excellent Magnetic Keyboard for Gaming

The ATTACK SHARK R98HE is an impressive keyboard that combines a premium build with excellent gaming performance. The aluminum construction and carbon-fiber styling give it a solid, high-end feel, while the 98-key layout provides plenty of functionality without taking up too much desk space. The Hall Effect magnetic switches and Rapid Trigger feel extremely responsive, and the adjustable actuation makes it easy to fine-tune the keyboard for different games. I also really like the CNC metal knob, which adds a premium touch and makes adjusting volume or other settings quick and convenient. Overall, this is a fantastic keyboard for anyone looking for fast, customizable performance and a more premium build without spending a fortune.

As someone who owns dozens of Attack Shark products I can say this one is a keeper! Highly recommend

Attack shark is one of those companies that releases a lot of budget, friendly gaming peripherals, and while some of their product releases are somewhat questionable quality wise this keyboard is absolutely fantastic. And I feel like I am confidently reliable and saying as someone who owns well over 12 attack shark mice and have purchased more than six attack shark keyboards that this keyboard is a fantastic release from them. There are a few caveats to take it to consideration when purchasing this keyboard as there are multiple color choices, and I went with the green one as I felt like the green matched my current set up as well as I already have the forged carbon fiber, mouse by attack shark, which matches the keyboard. The RGB light on the back is really cool and it's unlike anything I've seen on any other keyboard so far and it works really well however, if you go with the green one like I did, please be aware that the plastic that surrounds the RGB light is also tinted green as well, so most of the other colors aren't very vibrant through it except for the greens which are very, very bright that is cool. That's really something that you're wanting, however to be aware that the back RGB light itself is going to be restricted really two reds and greens as opposed to more of a rainbow color. Also, with the location of the RGB light on the back being so unique you need to keep in mind that delight is thrown back towards like your monitor as well as your wall behind the keyboard, so if your monitor like mine is very low to your desk, you may have to adjust your monitor up a little bit higher, so the reflection of the RGB is not shining on your monitor or you can also turn it off or turn it down, but it can be very distracting and I eventually ended up raising my monitor up as it is on an arm that allows me to do so so that the reflection wasn't s so distracting. I do like the larger keyboards that have the tin key on the side while I own several attack shark keyboards that are less than 98% and do not have that for smaller more portable set ups. My main daily driver is now this keyboard and the big reason behind it is due to the 10 key being attached. The cable that it comes with is also very nice and like with all of their keyboards, you get a key cap puller as well, which is just a very cheap little key cap puller but it does the job and it does it well. I do think adding a little screen in the place where they have the attack shark thin logo in the top right of the keyboard would've been a lot cooler and I would've been willing to spend the extra money to have that feature but overall it's not something that I'm caught up on, and I was fully aware. It was not a screen before purchasing this keyboard. All in all I would say that attack shark hit it out of the park with this one. I absolutely love it, and it is my now daily driver until attack. Shark releases another full-size keyboard that I like more. Overall, if you're looking for a good affordable RGB keyboard this works great. You also have the newer browser based Driver settings so you don't have to install software to customize the keyboard however, you will probably eventually want to end up installing the software as you aren't able to customize everything without doing so. However, the browser based settings is really nice, especially if you're using this on a work machine or a machine that's locked down to the point you can't install software drivers. This is a great way around it. Also installing stuff from China always makes me a little hesitant. However I did end up installing the drivers and I have not seen anything. odd on top of the fact that I've installed tons of drivers from attack shark and have never seen anything that has made me suspicious. Overall, this is a really great keyboard and I highly recommend it for anybody who's looking for this aesthetic.

Great choice

The ATTACK SHARK R98HE Carbon Fiber Wired Magnetic Keyboard in the Moonlight colorway has completely exceeded my expectations for both competitive gaming and everyday productivity. This is a great keyboard, and I love the front-facing letters and characters on the keycaps. Having the side-printed legends illuminated directly by the south-facing LEDs and the front-facing lightbox gives the board a super clean, modern look from the top while keeping every single function clearly visible from your natural typing angle. The Hall effect magnetic switches combined with the 8000Hz polling rate deliver instant responsiveness with practically zero latency. With the 0.005mm rapid trigger accuracy, micro-adjustments in fast-paced first-person shooters feel effortless because keys reset the absolute millisecond you lift pressure off them. Advanced features like Snap Tap, Dynamic Keystrokes, and Mod-Tap are easy to configure through the web driver, giving you pinpoint control over counter-strafing and complex in-game movement combinations. The build quality also feels exceptionally solid on the desk. The carbon fiber composite construction paired with the aluminum alloy positioning plate gives the board great rigidity, while the five-layer sound-dampening foam stack produces a surprisingly deep, satisfying acoustic profile without hollow pinging or harsh rattles. Retaining the dedicated number pad in a compact 98-key layout makes it ideal for work, and the smooth CNC aluminum volume knob is very handy for instant audio adjustments on the fly. If you want top-tier magnetic switch performance packed into a full-featured layout with striking front-printed aesthetics, this keyboard is an incredible choice.

This is a cool keyboard. It's now my second Attack Shark keyboard. I also have a mouse of theirs. It does seem a bit wider than what I am used to, as I find myself hitting the odd wrong key at times on the right side of the keyboard. I got the Moonlight colour and it's pretty much black, with some design swirling throughout. The lighting effects are cool and can be set to however you like, right on the keyboard. The thing that's taking me longer getting used to this particular keyboard is the letters/characters are printed on the side of the key, not the top. I am not bad at typing, but when gaming, at times, I have to quickly look at the key I need. Aside from that, and it's a personal thing, it's a great keyboard.
